Listen Up!

Heavenly Father, words cannot explain how grateful we are to be here today. We don’t take for granted how you’ve been protecting us on the highways, in our homes and in all of our daily activities. In the name of Jesus, help us use our time wisely and cease giving our time to worthless activities and senseless speech. I pray we all submit and allow you to use us to accomplish your will upon this earth as it is in heaven. Thank you for your constant care and for never leaving or forsaking us.

Have you ever been talking to someone about the Bible and noticed they were shutting down and not paying attention to you?  In fact, have you noticed that some people become irritable when you talk about anything concerning Christianity? The scripture passage Zechariah 7:11 says “But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and covered their ears.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 says “For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears, they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. 1 Timothy 1:4 says or devotes themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculation rather than the stewardship of God’s work, which is by faith. So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”

In Matthew 13:15 Jesus said, “For this people’s heart has grown callous; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise, they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.” Personally, I believe many people run from or shut their eyes and ears to the Bible because they know it is powerful enough to change them and this is something they do not want to happen. Jesus gave fair warning in Luke 21:34-35 says “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing(partying), drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.  For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
