Some people believe if they could only be free of God they would be free indeed. Psalm 2:3 says “Let us break their chains, they cry, and free ourselves from slavery to God.” I guess it is sort of like when we were teens; we could not wait to break free from the parental rule. As inexperienced teens, we were clueless to the fact that breaking away from parental rule did not actually make us free.
It is dangerous to trust your own abilities over your parent’s abilities. In fact, this is just foolish and stupid. I remember when I was around 11 years old… after being disobedient, I thought I could out-run my stepdad. Well, I was so embarrassed when he gave me a head start and still HAWKED me down and tore my behind up right in front of my buddies and pals! Back then, child abuse was no big deal…seriously! Anyway, my beat down experience made me understand that submitting and not rebelling is the key to true freedom. When I submitted and obeyed my parents, I was free from a beat down.
Some of us are getting beat down right now because of rebellion and disobedience to the Lord. Many people trust their own abilities over God’s. Many of the beat-downs are the result of rejecting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Jesus Saves! He saves us from self-destruction. Psalm 2:10-12 says now then, you Kings act wisely! Be warned, you rulers of the Earth! Serve the Lord with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling. Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities. Life is so much simpler when we let go and allow God to guide us. Life’s challenges become so much easier when we let go of our selfish desires and learn to cling on to those things that please the Lord.
