Are you truly Successful?

The book of Proverbs 12:3 tells us “Wickedness never brings stability but the godly have deep roots.” Further down in Proverbs 12:13 it says “The wicked are trapped by their own words but the godly escape such trouble.” Did you know that we are truly successful when we have deep roots in the Lord and strive to do the right thing…what’s right in the sight of God?

Some of you may be saying, “Well, I do the right thing and I’m not successful.” Well, that all depends on your definition of the right thing and successful. You know, oftentimes we confuse success with having a lot of money and things. However, in the eyes of God, success is totally different. It’s not at all about money and things.

It is about success in maintaining a good character, and a good attitude regardless of the circumstances. Success is good spiritual, mental and financial health. You see, people with evil intentions in their hearts twist things to fit their needs and have no regard for what God thinks about their actions. Overall, those who use cunning words to get over end up trapping themselves by their own words and behavior.

Listen, when our efforts bear up against the storms and heavy downpours of rain indeed we are successful. Nevertheless, some of us have it in our minds that a little wickedness here and there is not going to hurt anything. People who cheat to pass a test, cheat on their taxes, tell a little lie here and there, or mistreats their employees to make an extra buck are hurting themselves in the long run. You see, the longer people do these things, they become better at it. They become better liars, cheaters, and eventually spiral out of control.

This type of behavior gains only temporary materialistic success (sometimes). In a nutshell, if we are not successful by God’s standards, then technically we are a failure…because of our failure to see things God’s way. Starting NOW, lets us all take an honest inventory of our attitudes and character and ask God to help us fix those glitches and flaws within us. And brothers and sisters, we can rest assured that God loves to fix the brokenness within us.

Help restore them!

Precious father God we thank you for this day we thank you for enabling us to make it through the day. In the name of Jesus Lord God, we bless your Holy name for giving us the ability to also deal with difficult people, situations, and circumstances. Lord, we know that you are our battle ax help us to lean upon you and to hold on to your unchanging hand.

Speaking of peace my brothers and sisters, it’s not easy to maintain peace in a world where so much drama, chaos, and confusion is running wild. Nevertheless, God wants us to be instruments who bless others in their relationships. God wants us to help others restore their relationships just like Jesus laid down his life and restored the relationship between God and us.

God wants us to walk throughout this world bringing peace into the hearts and minds of others wherever we go. We are to carry on the work of Jesus Christ The Prince of Peace. If there are abundant chaos and lack of peace in one’s life this may be a sign that their relationship with God is not right.

Brothers and sisters, there is absolutely no way that we ourselves can be peacemakers without the help of God. Let’s pray for peace within us and our families and loved ones and our friends we have to learn to stick together as a family of Christians who rightfully represents the prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.

Provoking One Another

A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy? But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, (and) demonic.  Surely vexation kills the fool, and jealousy slays the simple. Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you. So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Scriptures: From ESV Bible (some paraphrased)

Proverbs 14:30

Philippians 2:3

James 4:2-3

Proverbs 27:4

Galatians 5:26

The LORD Challenges Job

Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind:
“Who is this that questions my wisdom
with such ignorant words?
Brace yourself like a man,
because I have some questions for you,
and you must answer them.
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Tell me, if you know so much.
 Who determined its dimensions
and stretched out the surveying line?
What supports its foundations,
and who laid its cornerstone
as the morning stars sang together
and all the angels[fn] shouted for joy?
“Who kept the sea inside its boundaries
as it burst from the womb,
and as I clothed it with clouds
and wrapped it in thick darkness?
For I locked it behind barred gates,
limiting its shores.
I said, ‘This far and no farther will you come.
Here your proud waves must stop!’
“Have you ever commanded the morning to appear
and caused the dawn to rise in the east?
Have you made daylight spread to the ends of the earth,
to bring an end to the night’s wickedness?
 As the light approaches,
the earth takes shape like clay pressed beneath a seal;
it is robed in brilliant colors.
 The light disturbs the wicked
and stops the arm that is raised in violence.
“Have you explored the springs from which the seas come?
Have you explored their depths?
Do you know where the gates of death are located?
Have you seen the gates of utter gloom?
Do you realize the extent of the earth?
Tell me about it if you know!
 “Where does light come from,
and where does darkness go?
Can you take each to its home?
Do you know how to get there?
But of course you know all this!
For you were born before it was all created,
and you are so very experienced!
“Have you visited the storehouses of the snow
or seen the storehouses of hail?
(I have reserved them as weapons for the time of trouble,
for the day of battle and war.)
Where is the path to the source of light?
Where is the home of the east wind?
“Who created a channel for the torrents of rain?
Who laid out the path for the lightning?
Who makes the rain fall on barren land,
in a desert where no one lives?
Who sends rain to satisfy the parched ground
and make the tender grass spring up?
“Does the rain have a father?
Who gives birth to the dew?
Who is the mother of the ice?
Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens?
For the water turns to ice as hard as rock,
and the surface of the water freezes.
“Can you direct the movement of the stars—
binding the cluster of the Pleiades
or loosening the cords of Orion?
Can you direct the sequence of the seasons
or guide the Bear with her cubs across the heavens?
Do you know the laws of the universe?
Can you use them to regulate the earth?
“Can you shout to the clouds
and make it rain?
 Can you make lightning appear
and cause it to strike as you direct?
Who gives intuition to the heart
and instinct to the mind?
Who is wise enough to count all the clouds?
Who can tilt the water jars of heaven
when the parched ground is dry
and the soil has hardened into clods?
“Can you stalk prey for a lioness
and satisfy the young lions’ appetites
as they lie in their dens
or crouch in the thicket?
Who provides food for the ravens
when their young cry out to God
and wander about in hunger?
(Job 38 NLT)

Love Acts

Happy Valentine’s Day my brothers and sisters! (Yes! It is still Valentines Day…Everyday) In the name of Jesus I pray that all of our expressions of love go beyond flowers and Gifts. In the name of Jesus may your love for family and significant others be the kind of love that doesn’t bring pain and distress. May your love for one another bring joy and comfort even if you stand the chance of being hurt. Be willing to protect those you love. Don’t embarrass or degrade them.

In the name of Jesus lift them up and help them fulfill their God-given potential. Brothers and sisters when you truly love someone, you are concerned about their physical, as well as their mental well-being. You have a strong desire to protect them from all harm. You do not want to see them overworked and exhausted or ill so you always jump in and try to help them out even if you don’t quite know how.

Take the bitter with the sweet and dismiss things that don’t really matter. Fight battles together because United you stand but divided the both of you will fall. 1st Thessalonians 5:11 says encourage one another and build one another up. And that Galatians 6:2 says bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. And lastly my brothers and sisters, remember that First Corinthians 13: 4- 5 says love is patient and kind, love does not envy or boast, it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way, it is not irritable or resentful. Listen, some of you may be in the midst of fiery disagreements or you may feel as though you’re being drowned by troubled waters. However, always remember that in Isaiah 43:2, God said “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you, when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”  Brothers and sisters, love is an action word. Today and always love with helpful actions and not just words.
